Abstract
Nakon skoro dva stoljeća od otkrića kreatina, i nekoliko desetljeća od početka korištenja ergogenog potencijala, brojna su istraživanja dokazala učinkovitost, točnije, povećanje mišićne mase, snage te poboljšanja sportske izvedbe, ali i sigurnost suplementacije za čovjeka. Posljednjih nekoliko godina u fokus dolaze novi potencijalno korisni učinci suplementacije kreatinom ne nužno povezani sa sportskom izvedbom. Sve naše stanice trebaju energiju, pa tako i naše moždane stanice. S obzirom na sposobnost kreatina da povećava koncentracije fosfokreatina u našem tijelu, on predstavlja potencijalno dobru strategiju za poboljšanje kognitivnih funkcija te tretiranje bolesti živčanog sustava. Uz to, nastoje se poboljšati strategije, a time i iskoristivost suplementacije kreatinom putem novih oblika za konzumaciju, definiranjem optimalnog vremena uzimanja te usporednim unosom određenih nutrijenata. Proveden je pregled određenog broja istraživanja koja se bave ovom tematikom, koja su dala obećavajuće rezultate, ali od budućih istraživanja tek očekujemo definiranje točnih mehanizama djelovanja.
Abstract (english)
After almost two centuries since the discovery of creatine, and several decades since the beginning of using its ergogenic potential, numerous studies have proven the effectiveness, namely, the increase of muscle mass, strength and improvement of sports performance, as well as safety supplementation for humans. In the last few years, new potentially beneficial effects of creatine supplementation that are not necessarily related to sports performance have come into focus. All our cells need energy, including our brain cells. Considering the ability of creatine to increase the concentration of phosphocreatine in our body, it represents a potentially good strategy for improving cognitive functions and treating diseases of the nervous system. In addition, efforts are being made to improve the strategies, time and usability of creatine supplementation through new forms for consumption, by defining the optimal time of intake and by comparing the intake of certain nutrients. A certain number of studies dealing with this topic have conducted which have produced the expected results, but we are still waiting for future studies to define the exact mechanisms of action.
