Nutritional assessment implies an analysis of food intake of every single food consumed during the meal which allows a comparison with the recommendations which contain information about the recommended daily allowance of energy and nutrients. The aim of this study was to analyze the menu of different diets (diabetic, Mediterranean and pancreatic) and to define their energy and nutritional differences in regard to the recommendations, and a comparison of the menu of the same diet using different food composition databases. Menus of those three hospital diets, which are applied in Clinical Hospital Dubrava, were analyzed using three databases – Croatian, USDA and Danish. Seven menus of the season Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter were analyzed in order to gain insight into potential differences in the seasonal offer. Energy intake was in harmony with the recommendations in diabetic diet, while there were deviations in at least one database in the other two diets. In all diets the fat intake was in accordance with the recommendations, while carbohydrate intake was lower than recommended only in a case when Croatian database was used, specifically in the season Autumn/Winter in pancreatic diet. Protein intake deviates from the recommendations in at least one database in all the menus of above mentioned diet. The average daily intake of niacin, vitamin B6 and vitamin C is in accordance to the recommendations in diabetic and pancreatic diet. Calcium intake below recommendations was obtained only by analyzing menu using the USDA database for the season Spring/Summer in the Mediterranean and pancreatic diet.
