Abstract
Balastne vode neophodne su za sigurnu plovidbu, osiguravajući stabilitet broda i upravljivost tokom plovidbe. Ukrcavajući balast u jednoj luci, a iskrcavajući u drugoj, različiti morski organizmi dospiju u njima nove ekosustave. Ukoliko prežive putovanje u balastnim tankovima te prilagodbu na novo stanište, postaju izravna prijetnja domicilnoj populaciji, uništavajući bioraznolikost. Morski organizmi i sedimenti u balastu također narušavaju ekonomiju i opće zdravlje ljudi. U zadnjih 120 godina, koliko se voda koristi kao balast, već je ozbiljno ugrožen morski okoliš. Stoga, Međunarodna pomorska organizacija 2004. godine donosi Međunarodnu konvenciju o nadzoru i upravljanju brodskim balastnim vodama i sedimentima u svrhu kontrole i suzbijanja posljedica nastalih prijenosom balastne vode. Problematika balastnih voda pokušava se riješiti različitim metodama izmjene i tretmana balasta, no još uvijek nije pronađeno sigurno i univerzalno rješenje koje bi bilo primjenjivo na sve vrste brodova i u potpunosti spriječilo štetne posljedice.
Abstract (english)
Ballast water is essential for safe navigation, ensuring stability and maneuverability during navigation. By loading water in one port, and unloading in another one, different organisms are ending up in a new ecosystem. If they survive the journey and adapt to a new habitat, they become a direct threat to the domicile population, destroying biodiversity. Marine organisms and sediments in the ballast also disrupt the economy and general health of people. In the last 120 years of using water as ballast, marine enviroment has been seriously endangered. Therefore, the International Maritime Organization in 2004. adopted the International Convention on the Control and Management of Boat Ballast Water and Sediments for the purpose of controlling and suppressing the consequences of ballast water transfer. Ballast water issues are trying to be solved by various exchanging methods and treatment but there is still no safe and universal solution that would be applicable to all ships and completely prevent consequences.
