Abstract
Različite populacije vrste Synurella ambulans prilagođene su na površinske i podzemne tipove staništa Hrvatske. Glavni cilj ovog istraživanja bio je usporediti morfološke razlike (dužinu glavene kapsule i broj omatidija) između pet populacija vrste S. ambulans u različitim tipovima staništa Hrvatske. Analizirane populacije pokazuju veliku sličnost u veličini i morfološkim obilježjima tijela, što predstavlja poteškoću u razlučivanju populacija s obzirom na prilagođenost na život u podzemlju. Testirali smo hipotezu da se način života u aluvijalnom i krškom okolišu Hrvatske odražava u morfološkoj različitosti, osobito njihovih očiju. Pet populacija vrste S. ambulans iz pet različitih tipova staništa (limnokreni izvor, reokreni izvor, pištalina, krška rijeka i aluvijalna staništa) je uspoređeno s obzirom na morfološka obilježja glavene kapsule i broj omatidija. Populacije su se razlikovale u dužini glavene kapsule i broju omatidija. Populacija s najmanjim brojem omatidija nastanjuje povremeni izvor Krčić i time ukazuje da je prilagođena na povremeni život u podzemlju. Međutim diskriminantna analiza nije odvojila različite grupe. Prema morfološkim obilježjima analiziranih populacija prisutne su minimalno dvije različite podvrste ili forme vrste S. ambulans u istraživanom području Hrvatske.
Abstract (english)
Various populations of the species Synurella ambulans is adapted to the epigean and subterranean habitat types in Croatia. The main objective of this study was to compare morphological differentiation (head capsule length and ommatidia number) between five populations of S. ambulans in different water habitats of Croatia. These populations show great similarities in size and body shape and are thus difficult to discriminate in the level of adaptation to the subterranean life. We tested the hypothesis that differences in the habitat demands in alluvial and karstic Croatian environment are reflected by differences in the morphology, especially of their compound eyes. Five populations of the species S. ambulans from five different habitat types (limnocrene and rheocrene spring, seepage, karstic river, and alluvial river) were compared for morphological measurements of the head and eyes. The populations were differ in the head capsule length and the number of their ommatidia. We suggest that the population with the lowest number of ommatidia inhabited intermittent spring Krĉić and thus it is adapted to the partial subterranean life. But Discriminant Function Analysis was not showed separated groups. Therefore, according to morphological characters of analysed populations, there are minimum two separate subspecies or forms of S. ambulans in studied region of Croatia.
