Abstract
Suprotno čestom mišljenju, tehnologija koja stoji iz mRNA cjepiva nije stvorena nedavno. Ta iznenađujuće jednostavna tehnologija nije se primjenjivala u ljudskoj medicini zbog predrasude od nestabilnosti molekule RNA. Ipak, nakon godina istraživanja unosa molekula RNA lipidnim nanočesticama, koja su prvenstveno bila okrenuta prema RNA-ovisnom utišavanju gena, nakupila su se saznanja koja su u situaciji pandemije COVID-19 mogla biti iskorištena za razvoj prvih mRNA cjepiva namijenjenih ljudima. Poboljšanja u sintezi molekula RNA, u razumijevanju imunosnog odgovora induciranog sintetskim molekulama RNA, u sintezi raznolikih lipida za nanočestice i u sintezi samih nanočestica razlog su zašto je mRNA tehnologija (cjepiva i terapeutici), premda jednostavna, uspješna i sigurna za uporabu.
Abstract (english)
Opposite of what is commonly thought, mRNA vaccines are not a recently developed technology. This surprisingly simple technology wasn’t of use in human medicine just because of the prejudice of the instability of RNA molecule. Nevertheless, after years of research on cell's intake of RNA molecules.by lipid nanoparticles, primarily conducted for RNA-induced gene silencing, knowledge kept growing until the time of COVID-19 pandemics when it was finally used to give rise to the first mRNA vaccine for humans. Optimizing RNA synthesis, understanding RNA-induced immune response, optimizing synthesis of various lipids and lipid nanoparticle are the reason why mRNA technology (vaccines and therapeutics), although simple, is efficient and safe to use.
