Abstract
Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je odrediti kako izoliranost populacije utječe na mtDNA profil populacije Roma u forenzičkom kontekstu. Uzorak od 143 Roma Bajaša iz Međimurja i 190 Roma Bajaša iz Baranje je sekvenciran te su analizirane regije HVS I (pozicija 16024-16383) i HVS II (pozicija 57-372). Izračunati su parametri koji ukazuju na varijabilnost mtDNA. Hrvatski Romi Bajaši uspoređeni su s mađarskim Romima Bajašima i iberijskim Romima. Rezultati ovog istraživanja pokazuju značajne razlike u distribuciji i kompoziciji mtDNA haplotipova među analiziranim populacijama hrvatskih Roma Bajaša. Zbog uočenih razlika, potrebno je, za potrebe forenzičkih analiza, analizirane hrvatske Rome Bajaše razmatrati kao dvije odvojene populacije Roma. Sve analizirane populacije Roma pokazuju malu varijabilnost mtDNA, što ograničava upotrebu mtDNA kao diskriminacijskog alata u forenzici u slučaju izoliranih populacija. S obzirom da sve izolirane populacije, uključujući populaciju Roma, pokazuju znatna genetička odstupanja, takve populacije zahtijevaju poseban pristup u forenzičkim analizama.
Abstract (english)
In order to determine the effect of isolation on Roma population mtDNA profil in forensic context, the two hypervariable regions – HVS I position 16024-16383) and HVS II (position 57-372) were sequenced and analyzed in 143 Croatian Bayash Roma from Međimurje in Northwestern Croatia and in 190 Croatian Bayash Roma from Baranja in Eastern Croatia. Diversity parametars were calculated. Croatian Bayash Roma were compared with Hungarian Bayash Roma and Iberian Roma. Our data indicate great differences in mtDNA haplotypes distribution and composition between two Croatian Bayash Roma population. This suggests that two Croatian Bayash Roma populations should be considered separately in forensic analysis. All analyzed Roma populations show a low level of mtDNA variability. These results indicate that potential of discrimination of mtDNA in forensic is more limited in isolated populations. Roma and other isolated populations show significant genetic departures and should therefore be treated in forensic with great caution.
