Abstract
U radu su istražene prostorna varijacija i ekonomske odrednice fertiliteta u Europi od 2015. do 2019. godine. Prostorna varijacija totalne stope fertiliteta i specifičnih stopa fertiliteta istražena je na 1436 regija u 36 zemlje. Uloga ekonomskih odrednica fertiliteta istražena je modelima konvencionalne i prostorne regresije, najprije na zajedničkom uzorku 1187 NUTS 3 regija, zatim unutar šest regija Europe te zasebno unutar 24 zemalja Europske unije. Glavni je korišten pokazatelj bruto domaći proizvod po stanovniku. Rezultati po zemljama upućuju na to da se porastom stupnja gospodarskog razvoja zemlje smanjuje značajnost veze fertiliteta i gospodarskog razvoja unutar nje. Na svim istraženim razinama potvrđena je negativna veza fertiliteta i gospodarskog razvoja u mlađoj, a pozitivna veza u starijoj dobnoj skupini. U kontekstu prostorne zavisnosti fertiliteta posebno su istražena pograničja. Položaj pograničja uz zemlju s višim fertilitetom u prosjeku povećava fertilitet, dok položaj uz zemlju s nižim fertilitetom u prosjeku smanjuje fertilitet.
Abstract (english)
This thesis examines spatial variation and economic determinants of fertility in Europe from 2015 to 2019. The spatial variation in fertility rates are examined in 1436 regions across 36 countries. Economic determinants are examined using both conventional and spatial regression models, first covering 1187 NUTS 3 regions, then within six regions and finally within 24 countries of the European Union. The main emphasis is on gross domestic product per capita. The results suggest that increasment in the economic development leads to weakening in the sub-national fertility-development relationship. A negative relationship between fertility and economic development is confirmed in the younger age group, and a positive relationship in the older age group. In addition to spatial variation, border areas were investigated. The location of a border region adjacent to a country with higher fertility increases fertility on average, while the location adjacent to a country with lower fertility decreases it.
