Abstract
Fagoplazmidi su hibridni mobilni genetički elementi koji se mogu prenositi vertikalno unutar bakterijskih linija u obliku kružnih molekula DNA ili horizontalno upakirani u virusne čestice između različitih prokariotskih stanica. Ovi elementi imaju velike genome koji sadrže mnoge gene homologne plazmidima i bakteriofagima što povećava njihovu učinkovitost prijenosa gena. Fagoplazmidi su brojni i široko rasprostranjeni u raznim bakterijskim vrstama među kojima su mnoge patogene bakterije od velikog kliničkog značaja. Dokazano je da ovi elementi sudjeluju u prenošenju raznih adaptivnih gena unutar bakterijskih populacija, uključujući gene koji kodiraju za antibiotsku rezistenciju. Zbog ovoga fagoplazmidi su predmet intenzivnog istraživanja kako bi se razumjela njihova evolucija i razvile strategije za suzbijanje širenja sojeva bakterija koji posjeduju rezistencije na antibiotike.
Abstract (english)
Phage-plasmids are hybrid mobile genetic elements which can be transferred vertically within bacterial lineages in the form of circular DNA molecules or horizontally packaged in viral particles between different prokaryotic cells. These elements have large genomes containing many genes homologous to plasmids and bacteriophages, which increases their gene transfer efficiency. Phageplasmids are numerous and widely distributed in various bacterial species, among which are many pathogenic bacteria of great clinical importance. It has been proven that these elements participate in the transmission of various adaptive genes within bacterial populations, including genes that code for antibiotic resistance. Because of this, phage-plasmids are subject of intensive research in order to understand their evolution and develop strategies to suppress the spread of antibioticresistant bacterial strains.
