Subject of this paper is the Mrežnica River, analyzed through its geomorphological, hydrological, and ecological characteristics, with a special focus on the protection of natural resources and developmental potentials. The paper first addresses the geomorphological features of the river, including its flow through karst areas and the formation of tufa barriers and waterfalls, which are crucial for maintaining biodiversity. The hydrological characteristics of the river, such as surface and groundwater flows, are also examined with the aim of understanding their impact on the Mrežnica ecosystem. In the second section the topic of the discussion are the management guidelines for protected areas and the challenges arising from their protection, including potential threats to the ecosystem and necessary measures for their preservation. Finally, the paper addresses the developmental potentials of the Mrežnica River, with a special focus on tourism. It considers the possibilities for sustainable development of tourism activities that could contribute to the local economy while not compromising the natural beauty and ecological balance of the river. Key challenges and opportunities for development are identified, emphasizing the need for responsible planning and preservation of natural resources.
