Less
Abstract (english) The cross-border basin of the Cetina River is located in the Dinaric karst area and is shared by the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Cetina River is the longest Central Dalmatian river. The results of the analysis of water samples, collected over a period of 5 years, at 36 sampling stations in total: 26 stations on the Cetina River, of which 10 in the estuary and 10 measuring stations of the tributaries of the Cetina River, are presented. ... More of the analysis of sediment samples, in the bulk and fraction < 63 μm, from 36 sampling stations in total: 26 on the Cetina River, including sediment samples from the Peruća and Đale accumulation lakes, and 10 samples from the Cetina River estuary are also presented. The concentrations of the elements in the water samples of the Cetina River, including the estuary, are below permitted values, while the values for total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) exceed permitted values at two measuring stations on the tributaries of the Cetina River. The sediments of the Peruća accumulation lake are naturally enriched with the elements Al, Fe, and Mn. Namely, their oxides bind other elements, indicating an of geogenic origin, while the increased concentrations of TN, TP and total organic carbon (TOC) in the accumulation sediments of the Đale accumulation lake indicate anthropogenic impact of the city of Trilj and loaded tributaries. It has been confirmed that sediments undoubtedly contribute to the purification of watercourses from trace elements, as well as organic matter. Sediment composition of the Cetina River estuary is most influenced by the geological base of the surrounding area, by the anthropogenic influence of the city of Omiš and its port. Less
