Abstract
U radu je prikazana historijsko-geografska analiza poplava na području grada Zagreba. Grad su mnogo puta kroz povijest zahvatile poplave, koje su uzrokovali rijeka Sava i potoci s Medvednice. Detaljnije je analizirana poplava iz 1964. godine, jer ona predstavlja najveću prirodnu katastrofu na području obuhvaćenom u ovom radu. Također je prikazana veza između padalina na zagrebačkom području i protoka, odnosno vodostaja rijeke Save i potoka s Medvednice. Kako bi se što bolje izbjegle poplave početkom 20. stoljeća počela je organizirana obrana grada od poplava. Kao najučinkovitiji dijelovi sustava za obranu od poplava ističu se kanal Sava-Odra i retencije na Medvednici. Usprkos velikim ulaganjima i izgradnji obrambenog sustava grad Zagreb još uvijek nije potpuno zaštićen od velikih voda koje mu prijete svake godine.
Abstract (english)
This thesis presents historical and geographical analysis of floods in the Zagreb area. During history, Zagreb has been affected by floods that were mainly caused by the Sava River and Medvednica's streams. The 1964 flood is being specially analysed because it represents the biggest natural catastrophe in the Zagreb area. The thesis explore connection between precipitation in the Zagreb area and discharge (and water level) of the Sava River and Medvednica's streams. The construction of the flood control and defence system began in the first decades of the 20th century. The most effective parts of the flood control system are Sava-Odra canal and retentions on Medvednica's streams. Despite big investments and constructions of the flood system, Zagreb is still not enough protected from high waters that emerge every year.
