Five satellite towns around Zagreb are intensively developing at different pace: Dugo Selo, Sesvete, Velika Gorica, Samobor and Zaprešić. Distinguishing each other by size, function, development dynamics and other characteristics. Satellites of Zagreb are part of its surroundings thus representing the cores of suburbanization, a process that occurs at a certain level of urbanization, socio-economic development and a certain town size. Decentralization of certain functions of Zagreb in the 1970s enhances the process of suburbanization. Since then we talk about planning, rather than the spontaneous suburbanization. Primarily decentralized are residential and some service functions, thereby increasing the value of its surroundings, especially satellite towns. Satelitization represents the main spatial-structural form of suburbanization of Zagreb. Planned population deconcentration and decentralization of workplaces in several settlements around Zagreb, which are becoming satellite towns, in the 1970s began the process of their transformation from the former rural settlements to the suburbs with an important feature of work. They are developing manufacturing and service businesses whereby the settlements become factors in the transformation of the settlements within their surroundings.
