Rječina valley is a dominant valley structure in the wider area around the City of Rijeka. It is formed on impermeable flysch sediments and is surrounded by calcific blocks, faults and thrusts of different geological age. Geomorphological features of the valley are complex and are a direct consequence of geological, hydrological, climatological, orographic, and anthropological factors and features of the wider, observed area. According to the scale of dominance of previously mentioned factors and features on local levels throughout the valley, a morphogenetic division was made recognizing the dominance of fluviodenudational morphogenetic type of relief. In this work, the observed area has been divided into three geomorphological units according to dominant geological and geomorphological structures. Anthropological impact on the area is big and has a long history. Plans which include regulation and hydrotechnical works have been planned in accordance to population density and growing population demands which, if conducted will have an immense impact on geomorphological, hydrological and biological features of the valley.
