Abstract
Jedan od većih problema današnjice je onečišćenje voda teškim metalima. Teški metali su opasni zbog svoje postojanosti, visoke toksičnosti i sklonosti akumuliranju u okolišu. Tako je i željezo, iako je esencijalni metal, potencijalni toksin ako se njegova količina u organizmu poveća. Povećana akumulacija željeza u tkivu utječe na različite metaboličke puteve uključujući i metabolizam ugljikohidrata. U ovom istraživanju praćen je utjecaj željeza na sadržaj glikogena kao i histomorfološke promjene u tkivu jetre šarana (Cyprinus carpio L.) tijekom dugotrajne izloženosti (105 dana) maksimalno dopuštenoj koncentraciji željeza (Fe2+ i Fe3+) u vodi (1 mg∕L). Sadržaj glikogena u tkivu jetre dokazan je histokemijskom PAS reakcijom, a zatim analiziran svjetlosnim mikroskopom (Nikon Eclipse E600) i računalnim programom za morfometrijsku analizu mikroskopskih slika (Lucia G 4.80). Rezultati pokazuju da se tijekom izloženosti željezu sadržaj glikogena smanjuje kao posljedica okolišnog stresa uzrokovanog onečišćenjem teškim metalom. željezo je uzrokovalo i oštećenje stijenki krvnih žila te smanjenje veličine hepatocita. Iz dobivenih rezultata može se zaključiti da dugotrajna izloženost maksimalno dopuštenoj koncentraciji željeza u vodi može dovesti do značajnih histomorfoloških i biokemijskih promjena u jetri.
Abstract (english)
One of today's major concerns is heavy metal pollution of water. Heavy metals are dangerous because of their persistency, high toxicity and tendency to accumulate in the environment. In this way, iron is also a potential toxin if its amount in the organism increases, even though it is one of the essential metals. Increased accumulation of iron in the organism affects a number of metabolic paths, including carbohydrate metabolism. Therefore, the aim of this research was to monitor the effect of iron (Fe2+ and Fe3+) on the glycogen content in the carp liver (Cyprinus carpio L.) during long-term exposure (105 days) to maximum allowed waterborne iron concentration (1 mg/L). The glycogen content in the liver was visualized by histochemical PAS reaction and then analyzed by light microscopy (Nikon Eclipse E600) and a morphometrical computer program (Lucia G 4.80). The results show that during the exposure glycogen content decreases as a response to the environmental stress of heavy metal pollution. Iron also damages the blood vessel walls and affects the hepatocyte size. Regarding the given results it can be concluded that the maximum allowed waterborne iron concentration, through a longer period, can cause significant histomorfological and biochemical changes in the liver.
