Abstract
U ovom diplomskom radu prikazan je jedan od najvažnijih matematičkih doprinosa Ruđera Josipa Boškovića, njegovo djelo Elementi sveukupne matematike (Elementorum universae matheseos), u kojem je prvi puta dana potpuna teorija konika kao ravninskih krivulja korištenjem geometrijskih argumenata, bez korištenja analitičke geometrije i infinitezimalnog računa. U prvom poglavlju dan je životopis Ruđera Boškovića, a u drugom poglavlju prikaz povijesnog razvoja teorije konika, od njihovog otkrića u antičkoj Grčkoj pa do Boškovićevih suvremenika. Boškovićeva teorija konika opisana je u trećem, glavnom, poglavlju u kojem su u zasebnim odjeljcima opisane novosti vezane uz teoriju konika. U posljednjem četvrtom poglavlju dana je usporedba s današnjim školskim pristupom vezanim uz konike.
Abstract (english)
In this diploma thesis we describe the theory of conics of Rudjer Josip Bošković, which is one of his main contributions to mathematics and presented in his text Elementorum universae matheseos. It contains the first fully developed theory of conic sections as plane curves, developed using geometric arguments without analytic geometry or calculus. The first chapter presents Bošković’s biography, and the second the historical development of the theory of conic sections from their discovery in antic Greece up to Bošković’s time. Bošković’s theory of conic sections is described in the third, main, chapter of this texts. In separate sections we describe his main new contributions to the theory of conics. The final fourth chapter compares his approach with the modern approach to conic sections in schools.
