Abstract
Na tumorsku progresiju utječu brojni tipovi imunosnih stanica domaćina, a važna uloga neutrofila nije još potpuno jasna. Iako rana istraživanja pokazuju da neutrofili mogu ispoljavati citotoksičnost prema tumorskim stanicama preko regulacije citotoksičnih stanica T, noviji radovi pokazuju da neutrofili promoviraju progresiju tumora razaranjem matriksa i pojačanom angiogenezom potiču proliferaciju tumorskih stanica i metastaziranje. Neka istraživanja pokazuju da neutrofili mogu biti modificirani ili „polarizirani“ tako da postanu više citotoksični prema tumorskim stanicama. Međutim, visoko aktivni neutrofili mogu predstavljati opasnost i za tkivo domaćina. Stoga novi pristup u terapiji temelji se na inhibiranju novačenja neutrofila ili neutrofil-izlučenih tvari za koje se zna da potiču rast tumora. Smatra se da je takav pristup učinkovitiji i bez opasnosti za domaćina.
Abstract (english)
Tumor progression is modified with a wide range of immune cell types and important role of neutrophils is yet to be characterised. Although earlier studies indicated that neutrophils can express cytotoxicity towards tumor cells with their regulation of cytotoxic Tcells, recent studies have shown that neutrophils promote tumor progression via matrix degradation, and increased angiogenesis which enhances proliferation of tumor cells and metastasis. Some experiments have shown that neutrophils can be modified or polarised to become more cytotoxic towards tumor cells. However, highly activated neutrophils can also pose danger to host tissue. Therefore a new approach in therapy is based on inhibiting neutrophil recruitment or neutrophil-secreted substances which are known to promote tumor growth. It is considered that such approach is more effective and without danger for the host.
