Peat bogs are wetland habitats with specific vegetation in which peat moss (Sphagnum) plays a central role, with adaptations to high and fluctuating levels of soil moisture and low levels of oxygen. Testate amoebae, polyphyletic group of protozoans with a characteristic test, have a high diversity on peatbogs. The aims of this research were to investigate the impact of peatbog Đon močvar restauration on the testate amoebae diversity, the impact on several specific species of testate amoebae as well as on pH and moisture levels. Analysed samples were gathered on two occasions in April and November 2015. The samples were collected from upper and lower parts of peat moss matrix from control, restoration and succession sites. A total of 38 taxa were recorded, with the most common species: Assulina sp., Arcella sp., Euglypha rotunda, Planocarina carinata, Heleopera petricola var. amethystea, H. sphagni and Difflugia sp. Soil moisture, dissolved oxygen levels and restoration measures had an impact on the testate amoebae assemblage composition. The similarity of testate amoebae assemblages on the restoration and control plots increased with time. Some individual species were proved as the good indicators of hydrological conditions on the peatbog. Biocoenological variables and indicator taxa of testate amoebae can be used as bioindicators of restauration of bog ecosystems.
