Abstract
Perifiton predstavlja obraštajnu zajednicu algi, cijanobakterija i heterotrofnih mikroorganizama zajedno spojeni neživim komponentama koje čine EPS i detritus te naseljavaju slobodne površine predmeta uronjenih u vodu čineći samostalni izdvojeni mikroekosustav. Perifitoni su sveprisutni u vodenim sustavima i igraju veliku ulogu u primarnoj proizvodnji i kruženju hranjivih tvari. Na strukturu i sastav perifitonske zajednice utječu brojni biotički i abiotički čimbenici. S tim u vezi, perifiton je izvrstan biološki pokazatelj za praćenje promjena u okolišu i ocjenu kakvoće vode. Idealan je pokazatelj onečišćenja višestrukim zagađivačima, uključujući organske i neorganske toksine. Diatomeje su najbrojniji i najznačajniji organizmi u zajednici perifitona. Prednosti perifitona te perifitonskih dijatomeja kao indikatora u procjeni ekološkog stanja i monitoringu su velika taksonomska raznolikost, kratko generacijsko vrijeme te brz odgovor na stres, odnosno na promjene okolišnih uvjeta ili kakvoće vode te lakoća korištenja. U Hrvatskoj se za ocjenu kakvoće vode na temelju fitobentosa koriste dijatomejski indeksi trofički indeks dijatomeja (TIDHR) i - indeks organskog opterećenja (SIHR) te jedan nedijatomejski indeks (NeD).
Abstract (english)
Periphyton is a community of algae, cyanobacteria and heterotrophic microorganisms joined together by abiotic components that make up of EPS and detritus and together they inhabit the surfaces of objects immersed in water, forming an independent isolated microecosystem. Periphyton is ubiquitous in aquatic systems and plays a major role in the primary production and circulation of nutrients. The structure and composition of the periphytic community are influenced by a number of biotic and abiotic factors. In this regard, periphyton is an excellent biological indicator for monitoring environmental changes and water quality assessement. It is an ideal indicator of pollution by multiple pollutants, including organic and inorganic toxins. The advantages of periphyton and periphytic diatoms as indicators in the assessment of ecological status and monitoring are great taxonomic diversity, short generation time and quick response to stress, ie changes in environmental conditions or water quality and ease of use. In Croatia, diatomaceous indices, trophic index of diatoms (TIDHR) and - organic load index (SIHR) and one non-diatomaceous index (NeD) are used to assess water quality based on phytobenthos.
