Abstract
Vitamin D važna je biomolekula koja sudjeluje u održavanju homeostaze organizma. Zbog mogućnosti tijela da ga samostalno sintetizira pomoću sunčevih zraka, vrlo je dostupan, a dalje se aktivira oksidacijom u jetri i bubrezima. Vitamin D ima regulacijsku ulogu u sintezi serotonina. On može aktivirati ili potisnuti transkripciju gena za triptofan hidroksilazu, enzim koji sudjeluje u prvom koraku sinteze serotonina. Osim navedenog enzima za sintezu serotonina potrebna je i aminokiselina triptofan koja se u tijelo unosi prehranom. Serotonin ima ulogu neurotransmitera, biokemijskog glasnika i regulatora u organizmu. Nedostatne koncentracije vitamina D i serotonina u krvi mogu prouzrokovati bolesti koštanog, neurološkog, imunološkog i kardiovaskularnog sustava.
Abstract (english)
Vitamin D is an important biomolecule that participates in maintaining the homeostasis of an organism. Due to the ability of the human body to synthesize it independently using sunlight, it is very available, and is further activated takes by oxidation in the liver and kidneys. Vitamin D has a regulatory role in the synthesis of serotonin. It can activate or suppress the transcription of the gene for the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase, an enzyme involved in the first step of serotonin synthesis. In addition to the enzyme mentioned, the amino acid tryptophan is also required for the synthesis of serotonin, which is ingested with food.. Serotonin plays the role of a neurotransmitter, biochemical messenger and regulator in the body. A deficiency of vitamin D and serotonin in blood can cause various diseases of the bone, neurological, immune and cardiovascular systems.
