At the onset of each industrial revolution, the way of industrial production changes radically. In the first industrial revolution, the steam engine appears, the second is characterized by mass production and electrification, the third revolution is a reaction to the invention of the transistor and the beginning of digitization. The fourth industrial revolution combines the existing technologies developed in the third industrial revolution and optimizes them to obtain maximum effect. The basis for this is the Internet of Things, which connects things and people not through the physical world but through the digital world, cloud computing that provides storage and access to data wherever they are, analytics of enormous amounts of data, robotics, additive manufacturing, etc. The result is smart factories, which without human interventions carry out the production process and improve it and eliminate problems independently. Production is increased, better quality and adaptable, which results in greater customer satisfaction. Accordingly, the example of port container terminals where the principles and core technologies of Industry 4.0 are applied was processed.
