Psihološke teorije u fokus stavljaju doživljeno nasilje i traumu u djetinjstvu, socijalne utjecaj društvenih i ekonomskih okolnosti i pritisaka, dok biosocijalna teorija naglašava utjecaj interakcije bioloških predispozicija i okolišnih faktora.
Abstract (english) Borderline Personality Disorder is a developmental state which can show clinical symptoms in adolescence, and especially in adulthood. It is characterized by unstable and intense interpersonal relationships, affective instability, uncontrolled and impulsive behavior, identity disorder and errors in perception of reality, which leads to difficulties in personal, family, social and work functioning.
Etiological factors are numerous. Psychological theories focus on violence and trauma experienced in childhood; social theories focus on the impact of social and economic circumstances and pressure, while biosocial theory insists on the impact of interaction between biological predispositions and environmental factors.
Borderline Personality Disorder often appears to be comorbid with other mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety and substance abuse, and the symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder are linked to aggressive behavior, including domestic violence and child abuse or neglect.
Psychotherapy remains the primary treatment for this personality disorder. However, taking into account its impact on all aspects of life, it is important to include social workers as members of the multidisciplinary team, and to use various psychosocial interventions.
Timely recognition of etiological factors and taking measures from the jurisdiction of social workers in social welfare system may help prevent Borderline Personality Disorder, while measures and interventions taken to help persons afflicted with it may help rehabilitate them and increase their wellbeing, as well as wellbeing of their families.
