All people are sex beings, and sexuality is an integral part of our functioning and consciousness. However, the sexuality of people with disabilities is viewed negatively, and it is marked by numerous prejudices, myths and discrimination, for example, that people with disabilities are asexual, unable to engage in sexual activity or have a lower sexual desire. Due to stigmatization, denial of information and general ignorance, people with disabilities are confused about their sexual identity and reduced self-esteem, and often are victims of sexual violence, sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. Apart from disability, parents and society have been shown to be a barrier to the development of sexuality, and the key problem is the lack of knowledge of the importance of sexuality. Therefore, I consider it important to consider the development of healthy sexuality in people with disabilities and to work on promoting their sexual rights, with key factors being adequate sexual education and open conversations with parents and professionals.
