The aim of this paper is to provide a systematic overview of the literature on counselling with the elderly and to indicate possible ways to improve it. Literature indicates that counselling as a method to help solve various personal problems is an opportunity for older people to happily and actively go trough their third age. In addition, counseling for the elderly population makes it more effective to cope with the difficulties they face, such as more frequent losses and mourners, changes in the health, social and psychological aspects of life. Counselling of the elderly is special because of the environment in which it is implemented, but the principles and the role of counselors are the same as in counselling other categories of clients. Counselling of the elderly usually requires the arrival of a counselor to a elderly.This implies implementation of couselling in an elderly home or in retirement home. Between time-limited and time-unlimited therapy, time-limited therapy takes precedence, although both have advantages and disadvantages. Because of ignorance and weak popularity of the counselling as a method of assistence among the older population, it is important for an older population to become aware of the possibilities of counselling as a method of help and to systematically work on promoting it.
