Poverty is a phenomenon that affects many people around the world, and people who are exposed to poverty feel the numerous negative consequences of this condition. As a particularly risky group, adolescents living in poor circumstances are emphasized because adolescence, as a phase of transition from childhood to adulthood, brings with it certain specific developmental risks. The aim of this paper was to examine whether there is a correlation between poverty and behavioral problems in adolescents. The results of many studies have shown that adolescents living in poverty are more inclined to develop different types of behavioral problems, with girls being more prone to developing internalized difficulties, while youngsters tend to develop externalized difficulties. Also, an important factor is the dynamics of families with lower incomes - in such families, parents are constantly under stress and there are frequent marital conflicts, which adversely affects their parenting style, all of which lead to problematic adolescent adjustment. It is therefore important to provide psychosocial support and implement prevention programs, both among adolescents with a lower socio-economic status, and among their parents. Precisely for this reason, this topic is important for the profession of social work, and it is necessary to pay more attention to it and to work on a greater education of experts on the issues mentioned.
