Every person has the right to enjoy their own rights and opportunities and to make their own decisions about their lives. However, people with intellectual disabilities cannot be completely independent and enjoy life the way they would like to. In addition to the disability itself, ie a lower level of functioning and lower intelligence, the biggest obstacle is the society that considers them children and because of which they cannot fully integrate into the community and enjoy the same rights as the population of people without disabilities. Due to the stigmatizing attitude of the society, they are prevented from full inclusion and realization of their own potentials, and due to such an attitude, they become victims of some form of violence much more often then others. All this affects on the quality of their lives, and their subjective experience is different from person to person, so some are more and some are less satisfied with the quality of their lives, but one thing is for sure - the quality of their lives can be improved. Therefore, I consider extremely important that the society, as well as people with intellectual disabilities, has to be informed and acquainted with their rights, obligations and opportunities, and that there is a need to conduct a research that will give relevant results and a real picture of the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities.
