Manorexia is a term that has been used to refer to anorexia nervosa in men. Anorexia is socially labelled as a "female disorder", which often remains undiagnosed in men, but in recent years there has been an increased number of men with anorexia (Roberts i sur., 2018.). Anorexia occurs most frequently in adolescence and is influenced by biological, psychological and sociocultural factors. In particular, the influence of media, commercials and fashion should be emphasized, where men’s perfect outfit is required more often. A number of other disorders, such as depression, personality disorder and substance abuse, occur together with manorexia, while its consequences are numerous somatic difficulties. The diagnostic criteria of manorexia are the same as those of anorexia in women as well as the treatments methods, in which the need for greater focus on men with anorexia has not been recognized. Therefore, recognizing the specificity of anorexia in men will allow a better understanding of this affected group. This paper will outline the causes of anorexia in men, its occurrence, psychiatric comorbidity and somatic complications, forms of anorexia treatment and provide some recommendations for required treatment modifications for men.
