Disability as a general term refers to an impairment in the physical, mental, intellectual, sensory, psychological, and social development. In addition to the general terminology, specific and individual terminology is also used, the concept of people with multiple sclerosis being the example of specific terminology. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and progressive neurological disease which affects all aspects of life and thus the quality of life of a person living with it. It is therefore extremely important to take into account the specific conditions multiple sclerosis causes, such as various neurological and mental impairments, but also the absence of effective cure and the unpredictability of the course of the disease. The damage can occur over a long period of time and eventually develop into a sort of loss which has failed to be recognized as a symptom. This is why support is necessary, especially from experienced experts, people with lived experience of such loss. Persons with multiple sclerosis form a category-based community and create associations based on the fact that its members share the same diagnosis, and multiple sclerosis associations serve as an example in this case. These associations are part of the non-profit sector that makes up civil society. Through its activities, they elevate the rights of individuals and believe that the key to solving the issues of its members is to sensitise people and make changes in society, which falls under the social model in the approach to disability.
