Abstract (english) | The paper deals with the roles that social work has in sports. The founder of this area is Jane Adams, who founded the social settlement Hull House in Chicago together with Ellen Gates Starr. Social work in sport promotes social justice and social change by focusing on the unique needs of athletes, and social workers in sport promote the health and well-being of athletes through direct practice, community organization, advocacy, policy development, education and research. Since this area has not yet been sufficiently researched, and there are no programs in this area implemented in the Republic of Croatia, the paper suggests the roles that social workers could play in sports, such as working on national campaigns to combat violence in sports, counseling. athletes, working with families and other professionals who play an important role in the development of athletes (group counseling, group work), advocating for the rights and welfare of athletes, material care for athletes, providing psychosocial assistance and support, conducting workshops and education on the undesirableness of violence and aggressive behavior in sports, opiate harmfulness, mental health, and depression. |
