Abstract
Cilj ovog rada bio je prikazati koja stigmatizacijska mišljenja, stavovi i ponašanja u društvu postoje prema osobama s problemima mentalnog zdravlja. Naglasak je na utjecaju društvenog odnosa, odnosno posljedicama koje stigmatizirajuće ponašanje ostavlja na osobe s problemima mentalnog zdravlja. Prikupljeni podaci pokazuju kako prema osobama s problemima mentalnog zdravlja općenito prevladava negativan stav, pri čemu društvo iskazuje osudu i odbojnost prema toj skupini osoba. Stigmatizacija nije usmjerena samo na oboljele osobe, već i na članove njihove obitelji, zdravstvene ustanove, liječnike te metode liječenja narušenog mentalnog zdravlja. Takav diskreditirajući odnos narušava kvalitetu života osoba s problemima mentalnog zdravlja te osim osjećaja srama, straha i krivnje, dovodi do sniženog samopoštovanja i samopouzdanja, socijalne izolacije, zanemarivanja vlastitog zdravstvenog stanja te samostigmatizacije. Programi borbe protiv stigme mogu se razlučiti na one koji se provode na individualnoj i/ili na kolektivnoj razini, no jedino njihovom kombinacijom moguće je postići željeni učinak. Mnogi stručnjaci naglašavaju važnost razvoja podržavajuće socijalne mreže stigmatiziranih osoba te potrebu njihovog uključivanja u društvo kao ravnopravnih članova zajednice. Također, naglasak se stavlja na suzbijanju iskrivljenog medijskog prikazivanja problema mentalnog zdravlja i samih oboljelih osiguravajući pouzdane i istinite informacije kojima će se društvo educirati o ozbiljnosti i osjetljivosti teme problema mentalnog zdravlja.
Abstract (english)
This graduation thesis aims to give overview of stigmatizational opinions, attitudes and behaviours that are present towards people with mental health issues. It is discussed how those social relations influence, and what consequences it have on people that are being stigmatized. Collected data shows that there is generally negative attitude towards people with mental health issues an society shows judgement and repulsion. Stigmatization is not focused only on people with illness but also on members of their families, health care institutions, doctors and medical treatmens of mental health issues. This discrediting attitude towards people with mental health issues impaires the quality of life and leads to feelings of shame, fear and guilt as well as low self-esteem and self-confidence, social isolation, neglect of one`s own health and self-stigmatization. There are anti-stigma programs that are implemented on individual and collective level, but only combination of these programs can achieve desired effect. Many experts emphasize the importance of developing a supportive social network for people with mental health issues and their inclusion in community as equal members. Experts also emphasize the need to supress distorted media coverage of mental health issues and people that suffers it, by providing reliable and authentic informations which will result in society being more educated and sensitized on mental health issues.
