Dostupnošću i društvenim odobravanjem dolazi do učestalijeg kockanja stanovništva, uključujući i mlade.
Abstract (english) Gambling is an activity which has existed since ancient times. In line with the development of mankind and technology, the ways of gambling have also changed. The aim of this paperwork is to provide insight into the issue of gambling, and the harmfulness of gambling to young people. Availability and social approval lead to more frequent gambling by the population, including young people and minors. Inexperienced and pliable, young people enter the world, from whose vicious circle many emerge with great consequences. Prevalence of gambling between young people and minors according to a survey conducted in 7 Croatian cities on 2 702 high school students is 80%, so 80% of underage high school students have tried their luck in gambling at least once. Given that gambling is banned for those under the age of 18, the number of young people who have managed to invest their money in a game of chance is worrying. Also, the law prohibits the advertising alcoholic beverages and tobacco products in all media, while advertising of lottery games is prohibited only in media content intended exclusively for children and young people what is an important risk factor that can encourage young people to gamble, so it is accordingly to expect a possible increase in problematic gambling. Prevention is more focused on the consequences than on the causes, and young people are warned more about other addictions than about gambling, so they do not perceive it as dangerous as it is and are not aware of the possible consequences.
