Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju kako je viša razina depresije, anksioznosti i stresa povezana s rjeđim primanjem socijalne podrške i nižim stupanjem zadovoljstva socijalnom podrškom.
Abstract (english) The crisis events that affected the Republic of Croatia in 2020 (the COVID-19 virus pandemic as well as the devastating earthquakes) require adapting to the new situation, which is especially demanding for young people, more precisely students. Due to numerous restrictions, young people are unable to have face-to-face social interactions, which is of special importance for maintaining mental health. Consequently, the aim of this research study has been to examine internalized problems and social support in the context of crisis events. The theoretical basis of this research is the Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological systems theory, in which the author proposes that each individual is part of the wider environment in which one finds themselves and that the well-being of the individual depends on how different environmental systems function. In relation to the level of stress that can occur during crisis events, Lazarus' model of stress was used, and the benefit of social support was examined through the Model of direct effect of social support. The online survey was taken by 236 students, 85%of which were female and 15% male students, 23 years old on average. The results indicate that higher levels of depression, anxiety, and stress are associated with less frequent receipt of social support as well as with lower levels of satisfaction with social support. Furthermore, an association was found between the levels of internalized problems and the levels of stress and concern due to the pandemic. This research did not establish a connection between the level of internalized problems and social support in relation to certain negative experiences with crisis events, such as one's own infection, infection of a family member, number of earthquakes experienced, or assessment of material damage caused by earthquakes. The obtained results indicate the need to develop psychosocial support services, especially within higher education institutions. The results may also serve as a framework for future research studies in the context of crisis events on the student population.
