The legal rules for determining the value od the dispute are, at first, clear and do not seem to be a particularly problematic topic, but each of the legal provisions raises some issues important for properly determining the value of the dispute. In this regard, it is particularly interesting how these issues have been approached by the courts, so special attention is paid to the presentation of abount case law. The thesis is structured in such a way that the general rules for determining the value od the dispute in litigation have been elaborated first and then what has showed as disputable in jurisprudence is presented. Part of the thesis is especially dedicated to the procedural possibilities of protecting the parties from the excessive value od the dispute in (non) monetary claims. These issues were partly addressed by the European Court of Human Rights, which is also discussed in the thesis. In the continuation of the thesis, special legal rules are discussed; in more detail those for determining the value of the dispute in the case of objective cumulation and joinder of parties. Then, part of the paper is dedicated to change in value of the dispute in litigation which is not specifically regulated by law but often appears in case law. The last part of the thesis is devoted to the remaining provisions of the Civil Procedure Act which are in some way related to the value of the dispute. In the conclusion, answers to the questions indicated in the introduction are presented.
