Age discrimination is increasing, both in Croatia and worldwide. Digitalization, the advancement of medicine and the development of technology have contributed to this negative process that puts older people in an unenviable position due to the fact that they do not have, cannot buy or do not know how to use modern advanced technology. They are considered to lack the potential or opportunity to keep up with it and therefore find it difficult for them to be able to get a job. Age discrimination does not apply only to the older life population. Young people are also exposed to the same time of employment. Lack of experience and immaturity are the most common reasons employers discriminate against young people and do not want to hire them. In the Croatian legal system, discrimination is prohibited by the Constitution and explained in more detail by laws in accordance with the anti-discrimination law of the European Union, which is considered one of the most advanced legislative frameworks in the world. Nevertheless, the results of certain studies regarding age discrimination in the labor market are quite devastating. This is an indication of the ignorance of employers and workers about the importance and difficulty of the topic we will deal with in this work, as well as the questionable sufficiency of the legislative framework in the fight against age discrimination.
