„This paper deals with the subject of the Schengen border and its protection. The Schengen border is the external border of the Schengen area, an area in which internal borders have been abolished and in which the unhindered movement of goods, services, capital and people through the territories of all member states is enabled. In order for an area without borders to be possible, it is necessary to strengthen the control of the external borders, i.e. the Schengen border. The second chapter of the paper describes the process of creation of the Schengen area and the reasons why the member states decided to abolish their internal borders. Aspects due to which the Schengen border expanded were also mentioned, such as the impact of the abolition of internal borders and labor migration on economic and trade connections, integration of the population and improvement of tourism. In order for the area without internal borders to function safely and successfully, the Schengen border needs to be adequately protected. The third chapter of the paper deals with explaining the joint mechanisms, agencies and systems that constantly protect and monitor the Schengen border and enable international cooperation between the competent authorities of the member states. In the fourth and fifth chapters of the paper, the systems and procedures for issuing visas for crossing the Schengen border and providing international asylum protection are explained, by which the European Union allows foreigners to enter the territories of member states, while at the same time using the same mechanisms to protect public order and provide security to its citizens.“
