The aim of this work is to show the impact of neoliberal ideas and concepts on the development of transitional Croatia. The paper primarily focuses on the development of neoliberalism as a concept and platform that appeared in the early eighties of the last century in Great Britain through the political leadership of Margaret Thatcher; the specific moves that were made with regard to the situation in which the British economy found itself, the political leadership, the economic measures introduced, the objectives of those economic measures and the subsequent results and impacts on the British economy and society that were achieved. Further in the paper, the mandate of the fortieth president of the USA, Ronald Reagan, is analyzed. The direction in which he decided to take the American economy, the underlying ideology from which his economic measures and leadership style derive, the specific steps taken to transform and recover the American economy, and the ultimate goals and results of his presidency. The last part of the paper is dedicated to the analysis of the collapse of the Eastern bloc, the influence of the neoliberal platforms of the previously mentioned politicians on the transformation of planned economies. More specifically, the disintegration of the SFRY and the subsequent succession and independence of the Republic of Croatia. The circumstances in which the Republic of Croatia found itself during the breakup of the SFRY, the special form of the Croatian economy before the breakup, and the multiple attempts to transform the collapsing centraly planned economy are analyzed. Later in the paper, the influence of neoliberal ideas on transitional Croatia is analyzed by introducing new legal institutes and mechanisms such as privatization of state property and a market-oriented economy. The economic measures taken during and after the Homeland War, the goals of those measures, and the final results, the specifics of the Croatian privatization story and the special form of Croatian neoliberal capitalism during the transition period are analyzed.
