The goal of this paper is, in the legal sense, to process all types of liability that may arise as a result of ship collisions, with special reference to both international and national sources of law. A collision is an event that creates numerous and different legal situations and often very complicated legal relationships. Let's just assume that collisions take place on the open sea, in various zones belonging to certain countries, ports, anchorages, inland waterways, etc. In other words, in all places where ships come and go, and these ships can belong to different countries and fly various flags. As a result, various norms of international character and national legislation of individual countries are applied. Most often, large property damages occur due to the loss or damage of the ship or cargo, and often human casualties. In addition, there is a great danger of pollution of the marine environment, and every hidden collision is regularly accompanied by the existence of liability towards third parties for damages caused in the collision. Our most significant national regulation for maritime law, the Maritime Code, follows international legal instruments almost entirely, thus achieving significant unification in the legal field of ship collisions at the national level.
