Nowadays, ecology is a very common topic at the level of the European Union and at the global level. In the 1970s, the harmful effects of technological progress and demographic expansion on the environment began to be studied more intensively. The need for systematic, planned and coordinated action of the state at the international level is developing, as well as the concept of sustainable development as a basic principle. The increase of transport in general has a detrimental effect on the ecosystem, therefore a special ecology of transport is being developed as a scientific discipline on the relations between transport and the environment. The increase in air traffic and aircraft noise pollution has impact on the environment and the residents near airport. In order to reduce this harmful impact, various regulations are adopted both at the national and international level, as well as special procedures and measures for the aircrafts, and operators and also for airport planning and construction. The paper presents a historical overview of the development of traffic ecology and legal regulations related to the management and reduction of aircraft noise, as well as special procedures developed to reduce the noise level at the source, along with other operational measures and noise certification of aircraft.
