Public authorities are large consumers of goods, services and products, especially in sectors such as construction, energy consumption, catering and food services and road transport vehicles. As the European Union leads the world with its green policy within the European Green Deal, public procurement has emerged as a very important segment in the development of a green, sustainable economy. For this reason, the European Commission, together with the Member States, has developed a number of tools, benchmarks, guides and guidelines with the aim of introducing green public procurement and its wide implementation. Although obstacles to its implementation remain, green public procurement has come to life and is being used more and more. Croatia, as a member of the European Union, has adopted several directives and regulations, and as part of its obligations issued a National Action Plan for Green Public Procurement with a view to 2020. As 2020 has ended, Croatia has adopted and started implementing other strategies and laws with the aim of further implementation and improvement of green public procurement. Statistical analysis of the application of green public procurement in Croatia shows that green procurement is increasingly used at all levels of government and how this positive trend of caring for the environment is growing.
