The subject of this final paper is the development and management of public transport. Public transport is of great importance for the entire world economy and the world's population. Precisely, because of the influence that public transport has on the economy of countries, the world economy and the quality of life of people, it is necessary to manage public transport efficiently and continuously work on the development of public transport. The aim of this paper is to point out the importance of the development and management of public transport and to explain, using the concept of a smart city, how public transport can be successfully developed and managed with the help of information and communication technologies. Secondary data was used in the writing of the paper, and the scientific research methods used in the paper are the inductive method, the compilation method, and the description method. After detailed research on the development and management of public transport and all relevant information and facts were presented in the paper, it was concluded that the development of transport, with an emphasis on public transport, is influenced by the development of the cities and countries themselves. Also, it was seen that public transport plays an important role in the economy of countries, the functioning of the world and the quality of life of people, and it was concluded that the future of public transport lies in the development of smart cities which, above all, contribute to the development of society and the quality of life in cities thanks to the use, or implementation of smart technology. The assumption is that in the future, most cities in the world will successfully implement the concept of a smart city and learn how to efficiently manage public transport. This is important because without well-structured and functional public transport, countries and society cannot function or develop.
