Education of young generations as a foundation for the future and the precondition for modernization and progress in all aspects of social life has been a significant topic in intellectual circles for a long time. History of education and of the education system is not a new topic of research but it is an area where there are many aspects that have not been researched yet. Starting from the term of literacy as a basic human right, this paper briefly presents the education system in the Republic of Croatia, from setting up of the pre-school upbringing and education, primary, secondary and higher education with comparisson to European countries. There has been presented the education system of Finland as one of the best through its most significant characteristics. Through paragraphs, there has been analyzed the issue of approach to higher education with the overview of curriculum reform and dealing with issue of what e-literacy and globalization have brought us… In conclusion, in today's time of economic and social changes and rapid transition into the society of knowledge, there is more and more need for permanent education through both formal and informal methods of learning. Therefore, the topic of education presents today and shall present in the future the vast area for writing about, studying and research.
