This thesis provides an analysis of the Armed forces in the constitutional order of the Republic of Croatia. The paper elaborates on the concept of the Armed forces of the Republic of Croatia as the military forces responsible for the defense and security of the country. The first part presents their significance and initial establishment within the formation of the sovereign state of the Republic of Croatia following the dissolution of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Alongside the analysis of the three main branches comprising the Croatian army, Croatian navy and Croatian air force and air defense, the main focus of the thesis is on the overview of citizens' obligations in defense and the roles of state authorities with a particular emphasis on the dilemmas arising from the existing constitutional order and peacekeeping as a fundamental value, all with the aim to present the main objectives of the Armed forces of the Republic of Croatia, which range from ensuring the defense of sovereignty and protecting the territorial integrity of the country to participating in international peacekeeping missions under the auspices of the United Nations, NATO, and the European Union by providing support in ensuring peace and stability worldwide. Throughout the years, the Croatian Armed forces have undergone modernization and improvement, becoming an important factor in regional and national security.
