Abstract
Europski javni dug odnosi se na ukupan iznos sredstava koje vlade europskih zemalja duguju svojim vjerovnicima, a obično se izražava kao udio u BDP-u. Javni dug često se koristi za financiranje javnih usluga, infrastrukturnih projekata i drugih državnih aktivnosti. Razina javnog duga u europskim zemljama ovisi o gospodarskoj i političkoj situaciji u državi. Primjerice, neke države poput Grčke, Italije i Portugala imaju relativno visok državni dug u usporedbi s drugim europskim zemljama. Kao odgovor na globalnu financijsku krizu 2008. godine mnoge europske države doživjele su nagli porast svog javnog duga poduzimajući mjere usmjerene na jačanje svojeg gospodarstava i sprječavanje recesije. Slijedom navedenog, dovodi se u pitanje kako smanjiti javni dug država članica Europske unije te samim time i javni dug Republike Hrvatske. Kao odgovor na to pitanje države članice EU-a donose mnogobrojne propise i reforme koje reguliraju javni dug.
Abstract (english)
European public debt refers to the total amount of money that the governments of European countries owe to their creditors and is usually expressed as a percentage of GDP. Public debt is often used to finance public services, infrastructure projects and other government activities. The level of public debt in European countries depends on the economic and political situation of the country in question. For example, some countries such as Greece, Italy and Portugal have relatively high levels of public debt compared to other European countries. In response to the global financial crisis of 2008, many European countries saw a sharp increase in their public debt as they took measures to strengthen their economies and prevent recessions. This raises the question of how the national debt of the EU Member States, and thus also the national debt of the Republic of Croatia, can be reduced. In response to this problem, the EU member states have adopted numerous regulations and reforms for the management of public debt.
