The paper will address criminal acts in the field of computer crime, which have emerged due to the rapid development of computer technology and the Internet. With the development of computer technology comes the development of computer crime, making the detection of such criminal acts increasingly challenging, especially due to the specific profile of the perpetrators of these crimes. Initially, criminal justice bodies attempted to classify these newly emerged criminal acts under traditional crimes; however, due to their specific nature, this was not possible. Consequently, a separate chapter for crimes against computer systems, programs, and data was formed in the Criminal Code. Given the global nature of these crimes, regulation could not be approached on a national level but only on an international level, leading to the adoption of the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime in 2001. The aim of the Convention was to encourage the contracting states to pursue a common criminal policy aimed at protecting society from cybercrime. The Republic of Croatia, through its new Criminal Code, has fulfilled all the obligations set out in the Convention and Directive 2013/40/EU on attacks against information systems.
