The subject of this paper is the decentralization of pulic administration. This paper points to the importance of decentralization of public administration of Republic of Croatia and the problems that appear with decentralization. Ideas and possible sol utions that could be implemented to facillitate decentralist processes in Croatia are specified. Decentralization is a process of restructuring and reorganization of public administration which transfers the powers, responsibilities as well as social and e conomic resources from national to regional and local government in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of public services. Usually facilitated by the principle of subsidiarity which specifies that public service decisions should be made as clos e as possible to the citizens themselves. Often, decentralization is seen as a two way practice in which the local authorities get the autority to self regulate and control certain functions and services (such as education, healthcare) , but are also calle d upon to participate in national governance via representation of its local officials in national legislative bodies. In this paper I will compare the public service decentralization of Croatia with the decentralization of public service in other similar member countries of European Union. The goal of this paper is to show the organization of the Croatian public service and compare to other countries of the European Union.
