Poljica was an administrative area under the self-government of the Poljica regiment, which had inherited its independence - in fact, broad autonomy since the 13th century. The name "Poljica" originates from the numerous fields that are located around Mosor Mountain. The Statute of Poljica is the most important source of the Poljica Republic. It defines Polljica law, which in its form, style, content and in determining socio-economic relations is completely different from other Croatian statutes. Statute of Poljica is an invaluable document. In addition to legal matters, historical, economic, political and other social relations can be studied from its subject matter. The oldest manuscript of the 16th century Poljica statute was written in Bosancica or Poljicica is a Croatian indigenous script. The Statute is written in the Croatian language in the Stokavian dialect in the majority and Chakavian in some parts. The Polish Statute was created as a result of satisfying the need to achieve as much independence as possible from medieval Croatia and Venice. At that time, the Statute of Poljica showed a high level of legal expertise and social awareness. It was written in short, picturesque sentences that covered the norms of Poljica society from the highest Polish authorities to norms that encompassed the essential interests of all Poljica citizens. In addition to the laws recorded therein, the Statute of Poljica also contains various decisions and judgments of the authorities, which sometimes also apply to individuals. From this we can see how the Polish statute was changed along with changes in the life of Poljica society, which makes it a true reflection. This paper is an attempt to contribute to a better understanding of our state law heritage, through an account of one of the most significant and complete manifestations of indigenous Croatian law.
