Abstract (english) | International affairs, finances, and in fact, the world, changed significantly over the past 25 years, and international organisations naturally followed suit. The process of globalisation, which can’t be declared as being either definitely good or bad, had a profound effect on all UN organisations, including of course UNESCO, especially when it comes to its power, relevance and efficiency. However, UNESCO, incorporating its noble agenda of creating and maintaining global peace through education, science and culture into all its programs, didn’t manage to stay completely immune to the pressures of neoliberal tendencies and politically motivated decisions. This became particularly obvious in the most heavily funded sector of education, as well as in the sector of culture, whose politics in the World Heritage Program cause regular controversies to arise, further fuelling existing latent confrontations. Given these facts, we wonder what the future holds for this organisation? |
