Abstract
Nedostatak vitamina B12 se povezuje s nizom neuroloških, hematoloških i gastrointestinalnih bolesti. U novije vrijeme istražuje se njegova povezanost s kolorektalnim karcinomom (CRC-om). CRC pokazuje jaku korelaciju s prehranom, te je zbog razlike u prehrani i incidenciji CRC-a cilj istraživanja bio analizirati prehrambeni unos vitamina B12 u odrasloj populaciji Osječko-baranjske županije i Dalmacije. Studija je provedena u suradnji s Hrvatskom agencijom za hranu. Ispitanici su ispunili semikvantitativni upitnik o učestalosti konzumacije namirnica, koji je obuhvatio najvažnije prehrambene izvore vitamina B12; meso, ribu, mlijeko i mliječne proizvode, te jaja. Medijan unosa vitamina B12 u Dalmaciji (n=165) iznosi 1,60 μg/dan, a u Osječko-baranjskoj županiji (n=178) 3,76 μg/dan. Ispitanici Osječko-baranjske županije najveći dio unosa vitamina B12 dobivaju iz mesa, dok ga ispitanici Dalmacije dobivaju iz ribe. Utvrđene razlike u prehrani mogle bi biti razlog razlike u incidenciji CRC-a ove dvije regije. Utvrđene su značajne razlike po spolu, dobi i životnoj sredini i unosu vitamina B12 u ove obje promatrane regije. Istovremeno, bolje prehrambene navike ispitanika Osječko-baranjske županije pozitivno koreliraju s unosom vitamina B12. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na potrebu detaljnije analize utjecaja prehrambenog unosa vitamina B12 na razvoj CRC-a.
Abstract (english)
Vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with a number of neurological, haematologican and gastrointestinal diseases. Recent research has also studied its relationship with colorectal cancer (CRC). CRC is showing strikingly high correlation with diet and due to the differences in diet and incidence of CRC, the aim of this study was to analyse the dietary intake of vitamin B12 in the adult population of Osijek-Baranja County and Dalmatia. The study was conducted in cooperation with the Croatian Food Agency. Respondents were asked to fill semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, consisting of foods considered to be the best dietary sources of vitamin B12, i.e. meat, fish, milk and products, and eggs. Median intake of vitamin B12 in Dalmatia (n=165) is 1.60 μg/day, and 3.76 μg/day in Osijek-Baranja county (n=178). Respondents from Osijek-Baranja County got most of their intake of B12 from meat, while respondents from Dalmatia got most of their intake of B12 from fish. This difference in diet could be the reason for the differences in the incidence of CRC in these two regions. Gender, age and living conditions significantly affected vitamin B12 intake in both regions. At the same time, better dietary habits of respondents from Osijek-Baranja County were positively correlated with B12 intake. There is a need for a more detailed analysis of the effect of dietary intake of vitamin B12 on CRC.
