The progress of technology caused a connecting of multiple scientific areas, including medicine and engineering where biomedical engineering is trying to find new strategies for treating the patients. One of the newer, advanced technology in engineering that has found its use in medicine is reverse engineering. It is used in cases where drawings, technical documentation or computer model are not available. Significant application of additive production in medicine is in development of 3D models of different body parts that help in performing of the operative procedures. The model is obtained layer by layer based on a 3D computer model. In this thesis, the use of additive procedures in medicine is illustrated by the example of making the model of scapula (shoulder blade) for the application in surgical procedures in traumatology. During the construction process, the patient’s CT scan was converted to the CAD/CAM system and by using the software programs processed to obtain a satisfactory 3D printing model. From a series of 2D image data a 3D computer model was obtained and stored as a STL format. The program smoothed up the surface of the model to get an acceptable appearance of scapula. Additional editing of the model is obtained through various software packages until the moment when model meets the conditions for 3D printing. The final result obtained by reverse engineering and 3D printing was fully satisfying and could be applied in the real case.
