Abstract (english) Industry 4.0. carries with it big technological turns that have a great impact on everyday life, but also on modern production. Robotics, IoT and virtual reality are just some of the possibilities it offers to improve the industry. All these innovations have a positive effect on the development of production through three basic aspects: quality, time to market and price. These three factors have always determined the value of a product. As the primary goal of every business is continuous growth and progress, it is necessary to constantly invest in the knowledge and technologies that can enable it.
Lean manufacturing is one of the popular and proven methodologies lately, developed and first applied in Toyota's production system. The very word “lean” signifies the basic idea, which is to remove everything that is unnecessary. The basic thought is to eliminate seven types of waste: overproduction, overprocessing, waiting / downtime, unnecessary movement, transportation, defects and overstock. This is possible by using a set of tools and principles of lean methodology, two of which are basic: JIT and Jidoka, and from the others can be mentioned: Heijunka, PokYoke, Kaizen, 5S, etc.
Lean can be used in any industry, including pharmacy. One of the world's leading industries in terms of the amount of resources invested but also the total earnings is certainly a good example of a proper improvement policy. Although lean can be implemented in every part of the business from R&D to marketing, the focus has been on manufacturing. More specifically, the implementation of a new packaging line at JGL. The example showed that investing in only two new machines made a significant contribution to increasing productivity and reducing the required human resources, which in the long run is a saving.
Finally, lean methodology can be said to be an area where continuous work should be done to improve production. It offers principles and tools that are applicable in every aspect of the business, and they just need to be well understood and applied in the right way.
