While constructing the drum machine, a number of problems appeared that needed to be solved in order for the final product to be usable and for the product to work as intended. In programming, there has to be a certain schedule a person has to follow in order for the process of creating the software to be as efficient as possible. First, the external modules were created and after analyzing the best way of managing them they were systematically connected on a graphic user interface. During the process of creating the application, some operating system related problems appeared. A number of modules aren’t supported on certain operating systems and some modules simply can’t solve the problem the way we need them to be solved. There are over five sound related modules, including the ones used to directly manage the sound card output. However, only Pygame can reproduce the sound and let the program go on while the other modules would freeze the interface for the duration of the sound that was playing. This was beneficial because there was no need to initiate thread objects to handle sound reproduction which greatly reduces the complexity of main part of the code, most likely because the threading mechanism is already included in the module itself. In order for application to be usable on computers that don’t have Python installed, it was compiled using cx_freeze script which provided us with an executable file. Some problems usually start appearing here because cx_freeze isn’t able to transform all modules with the executable file which results in the application not being able to start. This can be a pretty complicated problem considering there aren’t many alternatives to the modules we usually use and in most cases the user needs to think of a way to locate and bypass the problem that’s preventing the application from starting up. It took some time to do this and the result was application starting up, but some elements weren’t working as intended (such as threading) so these had to be fixed too. The solution can be seen in the above chapters of this document. The end result is a quick and easy-to-use application that depicts a drum machine really well. Sound keys on the screen are connected to the keyboard keys to reduce the complexity and make the application more user-friendly. Also, there is a lot of code that silently works in the background keeping everything in order, such as saving data and sound lag removal system that has also been mentioned and analyzed in previous chapters of this document.
